Skin Color

Skin Tone is also known as undertone; cool, warm, and neutral. Complexion is the shade of your skin as in light, medium, dark. Compare and match your skin coloring to one of the following photos.

Choose the skin coloring that is closest to yours.

Fair

Your skin appears more blue, red, or pink and may have freckles; always burns and never tans.

Light

Your skin shows more yellow, or peach; usually burns and sometimes tans.

Medium

Your skin looks more golden and may have that tanned look year round; sometimes burns and always tans.

Olive

You look tan year round and your skin has warm or a combination of warm and cool colors (neutral); rarely burns and always tans.

Light to Medium Brown

Your skin color can be described as amber, chestnut, copper, bronzed; never (rarely) burns and always tans.

Deep Brown

Described as ebony or deep you can have warm or cool undertones; never (rarely) burns and always tans.

Colors appear different in various lighting conditions such as daylight or evening. Colors under florescent light appear different than with incandescent ones. Even the reflection of the color of your clothes can change the appearance of your skin coloration.

The Fitzpatrick system classifies skin coloring as a result of the skin's reaction to sunlight or UV exposure after a period of time of non exposure, such as during the winter months.
